The curtain falls. And there they stand…the characters who gave a performance are now quiet and silent. But a breath of life seems to linger upon their faces. Their eyes seem to have a glowing sparkle of intelligence. What are their thoughts when they are alone? What secrets do they tell?Sebastián Gasch
Tarumba means astonishment, wonder, marvel, and awe… words that express the feeling the company has towards the art of puppetry.
A Tarumba – Teatro de Marionetas is a professional company founded in 1993 that creates shows and organises the Festival Internacional de Marionetas e Formas Animadas – FIMFA Lx. It operates at CAMa – Centro de Artes da Marionetas, the place where its projects reside and are developed, and where its bibliographic and material collection is kept.
Seventeen years cannot be counted solely by strings… but the puppets on display in this exhibition represent the first years of the company with extraordinary moments lived by the characters created for texts by Christopher Marlowe, William Shakespeare, Federico García Lorca and Berthold Brecht: Dr. Faustus, Don Perlimplín, Prosperous, Jimmy Mahoney, Belisa, Jenny Smith, Mephistopheles, Begbick, Miranda… Journeys of more than a decade made by plays, people, puppets, travels, turbulences, dreams and mysteries…
