A workshop by one of the biggest masters and investigators of Chinese shadow theatre and glove puppets. An unique opportunity to learn some of the secrets of these techniques.An introduction to the Chinese shadow theatre and Taiwanese puppets, with an approach to several techniques, like the traditional shadow puppets made of leather, shadows in cardboard, shadows with the body, special effects with lights and puppet manipulation and how to give them life through different demonstrations.
Jean-Luc Penso studied Chinese puppets and shadows in Taiwan and China with the masters Li Tien Lu e Wei Jin Quan. He directs the Théâtre du Petit Miroir in Paris. The company has several productions staged in France and Asia, and a cooperation with the company Yi Wan Jan, from Taipei. It was the first western puppet company invited to perform in China, after the Cultural Revolution. Encouraged by his master Li Tien Lu to use Chinese puppet techniques in no Asiatic contexts, has expanded his repertoire including works of European tradition, since 1985. In 2007 he was rewarded by the Taiwan-France Cultural Foundation for his contribute to the cultural relations between France and Taiwan.
